Volunteering at TCC
At The Christian Center (TCC) loving God and loving people are the two most important values we uphold. Jesus says in Matthew 22:37-39 to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." We believe that serving others should be a natural response to our fullness in Christ. What a gift it is to be able to love those around us!
There are many opportunities to serve our neighbors in need at TCC. Whether you are looking for group or individual opportunities, TCC could very well be the place God is calling you to do His work. Steps to Becoming a Volunteer:
1.Step one: Participate in Volunteer Orientation*. The orientation includes a tour of the facility and verbally going over safety rules and guidelines with a staff member. Orientation is held at TCC each 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 10am. Orientation is typically 1 ½ to 2 hours in duration. You may sign up by contacting us via phone or email.
*Please Note: If you are interested in bringing a group to volunteer, we require at least one leader to attend orientation and expect the leader to communicate TCC volunteer policies and guidelines to the rest of the group.
2.Step two: Complete a volunteer application and sign a liability and release waiver. Group leaders may fill out a group volunteer application, but each group member must still have a waiver signed. (Volunteers 17 years of age and younger must have a parent or legal guardian sign for them.)
3.Step three: References are checked by the Volunteer Coordinator. Upon reference verification, the volunteer is offered a position that best suits his/her gifting and the needs of TCC.
**Note: Please be open and sensitive to our changing needs. Each volunteer effort is different and could change at any time.
4.Step four: No need to worry that you'll be on your own! Your staff guide will train you fully to use your skills in whichever program you choose to volunteer. Each volunteer completes specific training for the area in which they are serving.
Steps to Becoming a Chapel Volunteer:
Speaking and preaching in chapel as well as leading our residents in worship through song is a wonderful and serious responsibility. Because it requires special skill, we ask that all volunteers wanting to speak and/or lead worship in chapel go through a slightly different volunteer process. The steps are below.
1.Step one: Standard Volunteer Orientation
2.Step two: Interview with Chapel Staff
3.Step three: Volunteer Application complete with references
4.Step four: Reference check by Volunteer Coordinator
5.Step five: Schedule Placement
We recommend that potential chapel volunteers attend a chapel service to observe the order of worship and get acquainted with the residents. We also recommend you attend the optional monthly meetings discussing the upcoming chapel theme.
