Bunks 'N Trunks: COMPLETE

In November of 2007, The Christian Center set out to furnish its facilities with bunk beds and trunks, hoping to maximize the capacity of our dorms.  Mattresses had been on the floors of our 2 level dormitories, and residents' belongings were kept to the side of each sleeping space.  The situation lacked the security and dignity necessary for true recovery.

The initiation of the "Bunks n' Trunks" campaign began slowly.  But by mid-2009, TCC was housing 75 residents without adequate accommodations.  Pushing forward towards 30 more bunks & trunks to complete the initiative, the effort became more intentional.  To quickly supplement the amount needed for 70 residents to stay comfortably, sights shifted from donor appeals (which, up to that point, made a tremendous contribution) to grant monies.

Three grants helped us reach that goal. Most recently, The Christian Center received $6,000 from the Madison County Community Foundation competitive fall grant cycle, given through the Foundation's unrestricted funds.  The application required a detailed explanation of program objectives, justification, and evaluation as well as asking about overall community impact.  Grants from the Rotary Club of Anderson, the American Recovery and Reinvestmint Act funds given through the United Way, & a previous Boren Grant rounded out the amount needed to complete the campaign.
