Pancake chefsThere's something about Saturday morning & the control it has over the human body.  Every weekend, it seems to demand that you stay in bed as long as possible and (once you do grace the day) travel only as far as the kitchen or the couch in your pajamas.  The most ambitious activity Saturday morning motivates is preparing big, delicious breakfasts just before turning on Saturday morning cartoons.  It sounds like paradise, doesn't it?

Fire Chief - Dave ClendenenSaturday, February 27th, The Christian Center hosted "PJs and Pancakes" in the TCC Community Dining Room.  While it may not have been the comfort of home, anyone could come in their favorite jammies for some of the best pancakes & people in town!  Celebrity servers such as State Rep Terri Austin, Fire Chief Dave Clendenen, and AU Professors of Theology and Sociology were there to cater to the nearly 150 who stopped by.  AU students and youth groups were there helping out, as well, making the pancakes, mixing in fruit, chocolate, or nuts, and keeping the assembly line in order.  It was fun for all involved, and raised just over $1,000.00!  Not quite paradise, but this was a lot to be excited about!

pancakes make you happy! We owe some "Thank You's!" to our sponsors who allowed us to have this event:  Anderson University, Good's Chocolate, IHOP, Eva's Pancake House, The Toast, Bob Evans, and GFS.  They allowed us to not only have pancakes with syrup, but also the mix-ins, as well as sausage, bacon, and eggs!  Additionally, we couldn't have done this without those celebrity servers who drew in several people (eager to see them in their PJs) and the volunteers who helped prepare the food.  You have proven that volunteerism is fun and can be rewarding!

celebrity serversEvent FUNdraising is a big theme for The Christian Center this year.  For each month we are planning something for an event – something for everyone.  It just makes sense; everyone is able to give in some way, & everyone is, in some way, impacted by homelessness.  Knowing how hard it is for willing donors to give & give often, we want to make sure that we are offering something in return for the effort made.  Events will give us a chance to not only raise money & have a good time, but also to offer education about the conditions of local poverty and TCC's efforts to combat homelessness.

Take a look at our Events Calendar to see what's coming up for the rest of the year – we hope you'll join us!
