Homeward BoundMonday, March 22, 2010Print this ArticleApril 25th marks the 5th year for "Homeward Bound" – a walk to support agencies who reach out to people facing homelessness. With 11 different 5K walks around the state raising funds for respective local organizations, the Madison/Delaware county event has proven to be the most successful year after year. This community should be proud of the effort it makes to reach out to those who are hurting, especially since there is such a need in this area. The Christian Center has vested interest in this event, as our specific mission is to reach the Hungry, Hurting, and Homeless. For 2010, we want to Pick up the Pace (if you will…it IS a walk, after all) and have a greater presence at this year's event. We would like to share our goals with you, in hopes that you might join with us: TCC Homeward Bound Goals 2010: - $5,000 raised - 50 new people made aware of our services - 10 TCC teams (with > 5 people per team) - 100 TCC t-shirts*worn during the walk! So, now you're asking yourself, "how can I get involved?" 1. Form a walking team! Get some friends/family/coworkers together and commit to coming out that day (April 25th). The event includes booths with info about each agency, a 5K walk (3.1 miles), food vendors, live music, and great time of community coming together for a cause! [http://www.homewardboundindiana.org/] 2. Get pledges! Some may not be able to come out that day to the event, or aren't able to walk this distance, but would gladly contribute. Talk to people you know and see if they will pledge money toward your involvement! ALL money contributed will be serving those in need, and ANY amount helps! 3. Spread the Word! You don't HAVE to be a part of a team - even if people aren't coming to walk as a part of your team, they could come & walk individually! Maybe your team is specifically your department at work, but your spouse and kids want to come, too – not a problem! Invite them to come along! Maybe you're a part of a social club at school, but your roommate thinks this sounds great – come on out, roomie! There is no cost to walk. We hope you'll make an effort to contribute, but we also hope you won't hesitate to come and become aware of the impact being made. This is a great way to plug into The Christian Center & the greater issue of homelessness in this community! Let us know if you have any questions. Otherwise, we'll just plan to see you there!
